AI-built websites: what to check before you accept delivery

In brief

According to Journal du Net, an AI-generated static site hosted on Netlify showed subtle navigation errors on 14 October 2026. A button did not open the section it advertised, and an interior page displayed the homepage after JavaScript ran. The article argues that handover should rest on verifiable results rather than appearance.

What it changes for an SME

If you commission or generate a website with AI, a convincing preview is not enough to treat the job as done. You should budget time, or later rework cost, to test real journeys: links, forms, mobile layout and search indexing. The risk is operational rather than a new legal duty: visitors sent to the wrong place, content that search engines never see, or pages that change after scripts run. These checks show whether the site behaves as claimed; they do not prove sales or ranking.

What you can do

  • Open each interior page by its URL, reload it and try a non-existent address, then compare content, title and HTTP status.
  • For every important button or form, write the expected outcome, test it on desktop and mobile, and ask the delivery report to describe that path.
  • Treat going live, Search Console indexing and actual visibility as separate steps: a crawl request does not mean the page is indexed.
