Figma lets teams set design rules for AI agents

In brief

According to Figma, Figma Specs is a Markdown editor that lets teams describe their design language for people and for AI agents. The company also opened a public beta of code layers on the canvas and connected the Payload CMS to Figma Make for dynamic websites. Agents can draw on central libraries and guidelines so generated work stays closer to brand rules.

What it changes for an SME

If your company already designs in Figma, the main change is tighter control over AI on the canvas: you can document your design language and point agents at your libraries so drafts stay closer to the brand. That can cut time spent correcting inconsistent screens. The public beta of code on the canvas may also let a small product team iterate on a prototype without waiting as long for a developer. If you do not use Figma, nothing in this announcement changes your tools or costs.

What you can do

  • If you use Figma, review Figma Specs and the agent on the canvas with your design lead to see whether they fit your current files.
  • Gather your existing design libraries and written guidelines so they can be attached as context if you try the new features.
  • Keep a human review step for any AI-generated design or code before it is shipped to customers.
