Google will require AI agents on Workspace to be declared
In brief
According to Google, Workspace administrators must declare which connected access belongs to an AI agent, using a console option available since 12 October. From 11 November, Google will refuse undeclared agent access. Standard Gmail, Drive and Calendar interfaces are unaffected.
What it changes for an SME
If you only use Gmail or Drive without connecting an AI tool, nothing changes. If an assistant accesses Workspace, you must declare it before 11 November or access may be refused. Google also asks you to separate agent access from human access when the same app serves both, and says this declaration is not verified. According to Journal du Net, these agents often run under an employee's account, which mixes activity trails.
What you can do
- Ask your Google Workspace administrator which connected apps are AI agents and whether they have been declared.
- List the AI tools linked to Gmail, Drive or Calendar and note which employee account each one uses.
- Where the product allows it, give the agent its own account, separate from the person who set it up.
