Meta pauses Muse sharing after business chats found online

In brief

According to The Verge, Meta paused a Muse feature that let users share AI conversations through a link. Security firm Claroc said it found more than 6,800 Muse links in public DNS records. Some conversations included a marketing company's revenue, a loan application, a workplace calendar and notes for a job candidate, according to Claroc.

What it changes for an SME

If you share an AI conversation through a link, that link may be found by people other than the intended reader. Claroc reported seeing Muse chats with a marketing company's revenue, a small business loan application and a workplace staff calendar. Meta has paused this Muse sharing while it reviews how the links can be discovered. For an SME, the practical change is higher risk of leaking internal information when staff share AI chats.

What you can do

  • Do not share AI conversations that contain client, staff or financial data through a simple web link.
  • Ask your team whether any Muse or other AI share links have already been sent outside the company.
  • Update your internal rules on what staff may paste into AI assistants and how outputs may be shared.
