Zoom links meetings and business systems to AI assistants

In brief

According to Zoom, a new single layer on its collaboration tools will gather meetings, calls, chats, contact-centre activity, documents and third-party application data almost in real time. The stated aim is fuller context for Zoom's AI agents and external ones. APIs and new MCP servers will let Claude, GPT, Copilot, Gemini or Slackbot query that history and trigger actions without the Zoom interface.

What it changes for an SME

If you already use Zoom Meet, Phone or Chat, your conversations could start feeding the AI assistants you use elsewhere, according to the vendor. That may cut time spent hunting for a fact across a meeting, a CRM, an HR system or a ticketing tool. Zoom says connectors already existed for applications such as Salesforce, Workday or ServiceNow; they would now sit behind one shared layer. More internal content, including spoken updates, then becomes searchable by third-party agents: you will need to check who can access it, what leaves Zoom, and whether that fits your confidentiality rules.

What you can do

  • Check whether your organisation uses Zoom Meet, Phone or Chat and which AI assistants are already connected.
  • Ask your Zoom administrator who will be able to query this context layer and which applications are linked to it.
  • List personal data (HR, customers, tickets) that could be combined with meeting records before you grant access to an external agent.
