AI is adding review work for managers, a survey finds
In brief
According to a Nielsen survey of 1,700 directors and senior managers in seven countries, commissioned by Monday.com, more than half of leaders find it harder to assess staff after AI adoption because finished work hides who did what. Nearly half spend more time reviewing output. Most remain keen on AI, but organisational processes lag, according to Monday.com.

What it changes for an SME
If you run a firm of 10 to 250 people, giving staff AI tools can increase the time managers spend checking work instead of reducing it. You may find it harder to know what an employee actually produced, and 78 percent of surveyed managers have already changed how they judge staff, putting more weight on writing instructions for AI and choosing which tasks to hand over. Having a model help write performance reviews, as 39 percent of leaders in the survey already do, can import bias, according to research mentioned by TechCrunch. More software is in use, not less, and many managers expect to supervise more AI agents than people within a year.
What you can do
- Agree with your team how you will evaluate work that may have been drafted with AI.
- Check whether managers use unapproved AI tools or rely on models to draft performance reviews.
- Name a person accountable for any AI agent that can act on company data or decisions.
