SAP AI: 80% of surveyed customers have deployed nothing yet

In brief

At the USF convention, SAP presented its AI agents. According to a Verian survey of 276 members (154 companies), only 9% have an AI use case in place on SAP solutions, and 80% have done nothing yet. 47% of companies do not know SAP's AI strategy.

What it changes for an SME

If your SME does not use SAP, nothing changes for you. If you are a customer, AI is not yet a saving in time or money: according to the Verian survey, 80% of companies have deployed nothing, 56% lack cost visibility and 53% are not satisfied with licences. A generic assistant may go unused if your teams already know the ERP, as the CIO of De Sangosse reported about Joule Companion. A painful task such as tracking unpaid-invoice risk is more likely to be adopted, but business staff may withhold ideas for fear of being replaced, which raises the risk of ungoverned AI tools.

What you can do

  • If you are an SAP customer, ask in writing for the licence model and the cost of a first use case before any pilot.
  • Check whether the vendor's AI features require a cloud migration to S/4HANA, which most surveyed companies have not finished.
  • With the business teams, pick a painful, repetitive task rather than a generic assistant on the ERP.
