Full-scale AI remains rare, even in large companies
In brief
According to Tata Consultancy Services in early November 2026, very few large organizations have taken AI to scale. Only 8% say their AI platforms are fully deployed, 6% that their models are fully industrialized, and 4% that AI runs in applications such as ERP or CRM. The study surveyed 1,333 executives at groups with more than 500 million dollars in revenue, across 25 countries.

What it changes for an SME
This study covers groups with more than 500 million dollars in revenue, not SMEs of 10 to 250 people. Nothing new changes for you in law or compliance. It does show that even large firms rarely put AI into real production, mainly because infrastructure costs are hard to forecast, data quality is uneven, and security and governance still slow projects. According to TCS, 84% of leaders cite productivity gains, versus 10% who cite revenue-generating transformation.
What you can do
- Check whether your AI pilots have a predictable compute budget, since TCS finds cost uncertainty is a major obstacle.
- Treat time saved on repetitive work as the realistic benefit; revenue transformation is still uncommon according to the study.
- Before scaling a pilot, review data quality, governance and how you will support the people who must use the tool.
