AI in photos and video: Pangram expands detection, with limits
In brief
Pangram has told users that its text detector can now analyse images and videos. According to the company, it can flag partly AI-generated content and highlight the areas involved on a picture. Two models are live: Image 1.0 and the faster Image Flash 1.0 for video, via the site, Chrome or an API.

What it changes for an SME
For an SME, this creates no new legal duty. If you receive photos or videos in the course of business, you now have another commercial service to estimate whether they were AI-generated, according to Pangram. The success rates cited, up to 99.96% on an internal image test set and 98.7% on the DF26 video benchmark, come from the vendor and are not universal. Photos processed by a smartphone, including an iPhone, can still be flagged by mistake, which delayed the launch.
What you can do
- Run a few real photos and videos from your business through the new feature before you rely on it.
- Treat any result on an image smaller than 512 pixels as uncertain, as the vendor warns reliability is lower.
- Do not treat a positive flag as proof, especially for pictures taken with a recent smartphone.
